Epitaph:
IN MEMORY/OF/J.O. JACKSON/SON OF/Robt. Jackson/a member/First of King's/Mtn Guards/5th Reg't So. Ca./Vol. afterward/of Compy G./Bat [illegible] fought/in 1st Manassas/died June 12th/1861 at Winder/Hospital in the/41st year of his/age.

One side of the obelisk has the following inscription: THIS MARBLE/is the tribute of/love & friendship/to the memory/of those here/named whose/bodies sleep in/Virginia and/Pennsylvania./From bloody graves/The trump of God/Will call the brave/Bless thou the rod.
