OBITUARY-Margaret Emily Barnett
Funeral services for Miss Margaret (Maggie) Barnett, aged 71, who died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 13, 1936, at five o'clock were conducted from the home Dec. 14, 1936 at two o'clock, with her pastor, Dr. J. H. Henderlite, in charge. Burial was in the cemetery at Bethel Church in York County, SC.
Miss Barnett is survived by a sister, Miss Eliza Jane Barnett, who is 84 years of age, and a number of nephews and nieces in both Gaston and York Counties. The late A. Meek Barnett, well known Gastonia druggist, was a nephew. Mr. Arthur Barnett, county official of York County, is a nephew. Mrs. E. Hope Forbes, of the Bowling Green community is a niece. The late R. Meek Barnett and A. H. Barnett were brothers.
Miss Barnett was born in Bethel, York County, SC, August 23, 1865, the daughter of the late Alexander Hamilton Barnett and Jane Meek Adams Barnett. She was one of a family of eleven children. She and her sister, Miss Eliza, were the last remaining members of the family of that generation. They moved to Gastonia in 1898, where they have lived since.
Miss Barnett, in spite of her affiction, was a woman of bright and sunny disposition, cheerful and happy at all times. She was a woman of the highest Christian character. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church and was a faithful and loyal attendant on all the services of the church as long as her health permitted. Of late years she had been confined to her bed, and it was her custom to recite long passages of the Bible, the Psalms and other favorite chapters. Her death brings sorrow to a large family connection and many friends.
The pallbearers at the funeral service were Messrs. V. G. Grier, Fred Riddle, Caldwell Ragan, Ed C. Adams, Price Lineberger and Dr. H. F. Glenn.
