OBITUARY:
Dr. Rufus Jackson Davis, 80, passsed away September 29, 2002, after an extended illness.
He was born on April 9, 1922, to the late Senator Harold Kendrick Davis and Mrs. Hester Jackson Davis.
Dr. Davis was a member of the Cramerton Presbyterian Church, Cramerton, North Carolina, and served as a Deacon and a ruling Elder in that church.
He was a graduate of the Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina, and the Medical University of South Carolina. He served in World War ll as a Captain in the United States Army Air Corps.
Dr. Davis began his career as a General Practitioner at the Cramerton Clinic, where he remained in private practice for twenty three years. Following his private practice, he was named the Director of Outpatient Services for the Veterans Hospital, Salisbury, North Carolina. He was then named and served as the Medical Director for the Hyland Plasma Center, Charlotte, North Carolina, until his retirement in 1995.
Dr. Davis was a member of the Gaston County and North Carolina Medical Societies, the Citadel Brigadier Club, the Kiwanis Club, the VFW Sam Alton Post # 6, the Cramerton Senior Citizens and the Gideons.
Survivors include his wife of fifty eight years, Martha Adams Davis, a daughter, two sons. six grandchildren, two sisters, and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Martha Ann Davis Rhinehart.
A Memorial Service was held on October 2, 2002, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Clover, South Carolina. Interment was in Bethel Church Cemetery, Clover, South Carolina.
