CLOVER-MAUDE C. BARNETT
Emma Maude Cox Barnett, 96, of Clover, SC, died Thursday, Mar. 15, 2012, at YorkTowne Village, York. SC. Interment will be 2 PM Sunday, Mar. 18, 2012 at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Immediately following will be a memorial service in the church, with the Revs. John Gess and Marcus Van Vlake officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mrs. Barnett was born Oct. 7, 1915, at Catherine's Lake, Onslow County, NC, to the late J. R. and Pauline Alexander Cox. Her family soon made Bowling Green, SC, their home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Meek Barnett; a brother, J. R. Cox, Jr. and a sister, Ann Nichols Cox Ross.
Maude was a graduate of Clover High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Winthrop College in 1938. She began her long teaching career in Sharon, SC. After marrying Thomas Meek Barnett in 1940 and moving to Clover, SC, she taught at Bethel Elementary School for more than 30 years. Tom passed away in 1984. During her retirement years, she volunteered many hours teaching adults in the Adult Education program. She delivered meals to shut-ins with the Meals-on-Wheels program. Maude was a member of Bethel PCA Church in Clover and enjoyed many years of Bible study. Her lifelong love of music brought her many hours of enjoyment.
Survivors are her son, Joseph William Barnett and wife, Joanne, of Greer, SC; daughter, Marianne Barnett Falls and husband, Frank, of Clover; grandchildren, Creed Barnett and wife, Kristen, of Simpsonville, SC, Major Quay Barnett and wife, Michelle, of Pinehurst, NC, Travis Falls and wife, Erica, of Rock Hill, SC, and Jessica Leigh Falls of Clover; and great-grandchildren, Virginia Maude Barnett and Audrey Anna Barnett.
Maude's family would like to thank the many loving and dedicated workers of Eden Gardens and Spring Arbor in Rock Hill and YorkTowne Village in York for their tireless hours of loving care which greatly blessed her last ten years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Deacon's Fund of Bethel PCA Church, 2445 Hwy. 557, Clover, SC 29710. This fund provides for families in the Clover area who are in need of assistance.
