P.R. CURRENCE DEAD
Former Gastonian Died Wednesday at Home of His Son in York County - Was Well Known Confederate Veteran.
The many Gaston county friends of Mr. P. R. Currence, who made his home in Gastonia for many years, will regret to learn of his death. The following is from this morning's Yorkville Enquirer:
Mr. Peyton R. Currence, a well known and highly esteemed citizen of Bethel township, died at the home of his son, Mr. J. D. B. Currence, on Yorkville No. 8 at about 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon following an illness of several months' duration. He was buried in Bethel cemetery yesterday afternoon. Mr. Currence, who was about 75 years of age, was born and reared in York county and spent all his life in farming in Bethel township. He served throughout the War Between the Sections as a member of Company H, 18th South Carolina Infantry. Mr. Currence is survived by his widow, four sons and two daughters, Messrs. John L. and J. D. B. Currence, Yorkville No. 8; B. J. Currence, Yorkville No. 6; Sylvester C. Currence, Clover; Mesdames Emily and Lee Harper, of Yorkville No. 8.
