Biography

OBITUARY.....
Flossie Mae Sipe McCarter, 100, died at White Oak Manor, York, SC September 2, 2003. A native of Cleveland County, NC, she was born October 24, 1902 to the late John Sipe and Dora Reynolds Sipe. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Clover, SC and she was the widow of Barber Finley McCarter.
After her husband died in 1950, Mrs. McCarter and her children kept the family farm running while she also worked as a winder at the old Clover Textile Mill.  Later, she worked as a cottage mother at the Episcopal Home for Children, now known as York Place. Mrs. McCarter worked on up into her 80s, caring for the elderly at White Oak Manor, where she last lived.
A graveside service and burial was held September 3, 2003 at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Revs. Harry Bryant and John A. Gess officiating.
Surviving are six sons, four daughters, 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
