OBITUARY........
Katherine Massey Flanagan, 88, died September 24, 2013. She was born October 15, 1924 in Etowah, Tennessee to the late John W. and Grace Heinz Massey. She was the widow of William Wallace Flanagan, Sr.
Katherine graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing and the Nurse Cadet Corps and enlisted in the US Navy Nurse Corps. She also graduated from Baylor University Anesthesia School. She proudly served at the Naval Hospitals in Memphis, Tennessee; Lakehust, New Jersey; Oakland, California; and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. She met her husband at the US Naval Hospital, Charleston, SC. (He was her patient!) She received the National Defense Service Medal and held the rank of Lieutenant when she resigned from the Navy in 1956.
For 35 years, Katherine practiced anesthesia in North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and South Carolina. She was proud that many physicians requested her skillful services during surgical procedures. For many years she worked full-time at Presbyterian Hospital while also providing emergency anesthesia on weekends at surrounding hospitals.
Katherine was a member of the Clover Women's Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Clover, SC, where she was a member of the Women in the Church.
A graveside service and burial was held September 28, 2013 at Bethel Church Cemetery with Rev. Danny Sipe officiating.
Survivors include three sons, one daughter, six grandsons and one sister. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
