A.H.BARNETT-Obituary
After a long period of ill health, A. Hamilton Barnett died at 12:25 AM Thursday, April 18, 1924 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. S. Riddle, and was buried in Bethel Cemetery Friday about noon after services held in Bethel Church of which he had been a lifelong member. Mr. Barnett was 69 years old and was born in sight of Bethel Church, at the place now owned by Mr. Will Adams. His father was Mr. Hamilton Barnett, one of the most prominent men of York County. Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, who was Miss Eliza Hill of the Olney section of Gaston County, NC, and the following children: A. Hamilton Barnett, Jr., Rufus W. Barnett and Jesse L. Barnett, Mrs. R. S. Riddle, all of the Bethel section, and Mrs. Hope Forbes of Gaston County. Also, a brother, Mr. R. Meek Barnett of Bethel and three sisters, Mrs. T. J. Nichols of York and Misses Eliza and Maggie Barnett of Gastonia survive.
Mr. Barnett was born Jan. 12, 1855. He was married Aug. 31, 1881. He was a deacon in Bethel Presbyterian Church. Mr. Barnett was one of the most highly respected and honored citizens of York County. He was a man of high ideals and staunch character, and was held in high esteem in church and state. He was eminently successful as a farmer. He had been in failing health for several months. His family have the sympathy of a large number of friends in their bereavement.
