MRS. G.A. PATRICK
Mrs. Mary Patrick, widow of the late Capt. George A. Patrick, died Friday, the 21st, at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Campbell Ratchford, in the Bethel section. She had been in failing health for some time and suffered a stroke of paralysis shortly before her death. She was in her 84th year. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Bethel Presbyterian Church, of which she had been a member practically all of her life, the pastor of the church officiating. Interment was in the Bethel cemetery. A large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives were present to pay a last tribute of respect to her memory.
Deceased was prior to her marriage Miss Mary Glenn, a daughter of Henry Glenn, of the Bethel section. She was born February 4, 1835, and would have been 81 years old within a few days. She was twice married. Her first husband was Mack Riddle, who died during the war. To this union was born one child, who survives, namely Mrs. Meek Huffstetler. About 1866 she was married to Capt. George A. Patrick, who was captain of Company B, Fifth South Carolina Regiment. He died May 25, 1912. To this union were born the following children who survive, namely: Mr. Reese Patrick, of Bethel; Mrs. Campbell Ratchford, of Bethel, Mrs. L.L. Henderson and Mrs. R.P. Craig, of thge Union section, and Mrs. Marshall Robinson, who lives on the Union road south of Gastonia. She is survived also by one brother, Mr. Newt Glenn, and one sister, Miss Margaret Glenn, both of the Bethel section. She was an aunt of Dr. H.F. Glenn, of Gastonia.
Mrs. Patrick was a woman of the highest Christian type. She was throughout most of her life a loyal and consistent member of Bethel church. She was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her and her passing is the cause of sorrow among many.
